While you might generally fail in life in the 23rd century, you excel in pioneering the most successful franchise in TV history. I never really cared for this guy and never really understood why so many people favor the original series over the other spinoffs, but that doesn't mean I don't like him either. Captain Kirk has some endearing qualities and to be fair, his personality on the 60's show couldn't be helped much. It was a primitive time back then and Gene Roddenberry did the best he could to avoid the inevitable 60's cliches. He did a fine job, too, for the most part.
